Our History
In 1979, Antonio Picão Neto left southern Brazil for the Western Amazon in search of new opportunities. There he started out in gold mining, which brought him close to aviation, essential for flying food, medicine, fuel and the miners themselves to the most remote corners of the rainforest.
When the gold era ended in 1997, Captain Picão settled in Tefé, Amazonas, and saw the need for a well-organized, sustainable air taxi company, certified for cargo and passengers, to support local governments and riverside communities along the Upper Solimões. Together with his brother, Captain Geraldo, he founded AMAZONAVES TÁXI AÉREO, certified in October 1998.
In early 2004, anticipating the demand for air cargo in the region, the company acquired a Britten-Norman Islander and certified it for that service. In the first half of 2005 came its first Cessna Grand Caravan, one of the safest and most robust single-engine turboprops in the world, a milestone that reshaped the company's entire operations and maintenance structure.
Certified by the former DAC on 09/30/2005, the first Grand Caravan gave new momentum to growth, and a second one joined the fleet in 2006. A source of great pride for the “Amazonaves Family”, it crowns the work begun in 1979 and established AMAZONAVES as one of the most respected air taxi companies in the Amazon region.
